Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his initial championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a challenging year, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court after that period of the previous year.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my both daughters at once, so to win a championship is really nice," said ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the first title I won when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.

The player's retrieving approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had led observers to question if his capacity to compete at the highest level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

He came back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial tour championship, took control to force a decider.

He rescued four early-game opportunities in a competitive final set before the champion broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
